- Additional visual design work and UI modifications
The National Museum of Play website was part of The Strong Website redesign project, a 15-month long project, started in June 2009 and completed in September 2010. It was in conjunction with a major rebranding initiative. Strong National Museum of Play became The Strong and its five Play Partners.
Development specific to www.museumofplay.org:
Custom blocks on homepage and on right sidebar of most pages are set up with specific theming options. The content are actually nodes, displayed using Node as Block module.
Several email-based forms were built using Webform module.
“See also” links on some pages are set using the Links module.
Significant development was done on the Calendar and Events pages. A calendar widget is displayed on every page, showing days that have events. The Calendar widget does not update through AJAX out of the box, and other custom modifications had to be made. The events listing pages are displayed with a very specific date format; a custom date function was developed. Twitter’s “Tweet” button and Facebook’s “Share” link (using the Facebook SDK) were successfully implemented to share an individual event.
The School Lessons section includes selectable grade level of lessons. Lessons span multiple grades, with much duplication of effort on the old static site. These were combined into a single Lesson content, with a drop-down added using Jump module.
