About

Wes JonesHi, I’m Wes Jones, Web developer and Drupal nerd.

For a complete summary of my work experience, please see my resume.

The facts

I’m a Web developer from Rochester, NY, specializing in Drupal site building and kickin’ front-end and back-end code. I’ve been coding in PHP since 2008, working for The College at Brockport and The Strong (formerly Strong National Museum of Play).

Why do I do Web development? I’ve always loved technology, math, and programming. Coding websites lets me apply all my problem-solving skills to real-world problems, and create products that I’m proud of.

Drupal

Since 2009, I’ve been working almost exclusively with the Drupal web publishing platform. I’ve built and deployed more than a dozen sites with Drupal 6 and 7 (including this one). Check out the Work section for examples of my past work.

Besides being a Drupal Developer and Site Builder, I’m also a Drupal Themer and Designer. I know my way around the Drupal API, writing custom modules and themes for projects.

I try to stay active in the Drupal community. I am the Multisite Search module maintainer on Drupal.org. I’m a member of several groups on groups.drupal.org. I love the folks at Lullabot, I read their blogs, listen to the podcasts, and follow most of them on Twitter. I attended DrupalCon Chicago 2011 and Lullabot training workshops.

My username on drupal.org and elsewhere on the Web is earthday47.

Programming

I code using PHP, HTML, CSS, MySQL, and Javascript/jQuery. I love clean, semantic markup, and beautiful CSS.

Drupal is my favorite software, but I’ve built websites using WordpressCakePHPMediaWiki, and other open source projects.

I use Git for version control and I develop on both Windows and Mac (although I prefer Mac). I’ve administered Windows servers and LAMP servers. I prefer Linux :)

See examples of my programming on my Github account.

Design

I am a design enthusiast. I marvel at talented designers’ amazing designs. I find color theory and typography insanely fascinating, and I’ve been influenced by such books as The Non-designer’s Design BookWeb Style Guide, and The Principles of Beautiful Web Design. I am also a sucker for usabilityJacob NielsonSteve Krug, and Jared Spool are some of my favorite speakers.

Other interests

Besides the Web, I have a passion for languages (especially Chinese) and music. I like YouTube, some of my favorite content providers are Rhett and LinkCorey VidalWheezy Waiter, and vlogbrothers.
